Pancratium maritimum, or sea daffodil, is one of the most iconic wild flowers of the Mediterranean and Atlantic coasts.It grows on fine sandy beaches, exposed to salty winds, marine spray, and the scorching summer sun. Its large white blossoms, with their exotic fragrance, open at nightfall and close the following afternoon, offering a spectacle as discreet as it is captivating.
In the wild, this plant can be found in Crete, along Mediterranean shores, and on certain Atlantic islands such as Houat or Hoedic. Its remarkable ability to survive in arid, saline environments has earned it its Greek name Pancratium, meaning “all strength.”
